hot swap

i was finally reading thru the dummy guide of my Aeris XR1, and noticed on the review card it says something about "hot swap" before 8 seconds...

now, i don't remember reading about this feature on this comp anywhere i looked. but i may have overlooked it.

i've heard it ("hot swap") mentioned in my LDS several times, like when referring to Oceanic's Data mask. But I thought it was some *fancy* feature like a backlight or nitrox capability

So it got me thinking, do most comps now feature "hot swap"? If not, is there anybody who cares less about it?

What do you think about it, do you even care whether your comp is hot swap capable or not?

The guys who remove a battery to make the computer forget it was locked out won't like it I'll bet.

I like it because I don't lose the history of my previous dives when changing the battery. Although I've always changed the battery between dive trips, after downloading my dives, I like that if I get a bad battery and it has to be changed during a trip before I can download, I don't have to worry about losing my history.

The previous dive log isn't affected by hot swap or not, it is there so that any calculations currently set in the computer won't be lost if you have to change batteries between dives. The log is kept regardless of the 8 second hot swap time period. Just thought I'd mention it so nobody freaks out at some point thinking they lost their previous logged dives

If you need to change out a battery in between dives on a particular day, and you can get it switched out in 8 seconds or less, then all of the settings for nitrogen, oxygen, etc. will be saved so you can make a repetitive dive as if you had never switched out the battery.

It's only useful if you happen to forget to check the charge on your computer before you make your first dive of the day and don't think it will last for the rest of your dives that day.
