I am hoping some of you wise and knowledgeable (or at least easily flattered!) people might offer me some advice/information.
I have been a long time (more than 10 yrs) user of Uwatec dive computers, but have through very good fortune been given a Suunto D9. The problem is that I have almost 700 dives logged in smart trak (most with profiles) and want to transfer at least some of the data for these dives to Suunto Dive manager. I understand that both smart trak and suunto dive manager use MS access databases to store the dive data. However, it seems that both programs have a password on the database. Is it just a case of renaming a backup of the database as a mdb file in order to open it in access. In this case, I assume that I can create some sort of csv file from the smarttrak database, which I can import into the Suunto program. Is this a sensible strategy? Or is there an intermediate program which can be used to the same end? I see passwords mentioned in other threads- is anyone able to offer me this information please? Thank-you Charles |

There is a PW that unlocks the SmartTrak database. I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere. I don't know for sure about Suunto, though, as I don't bother with their POS software.
You're going to suffer through a big step down in software capability, moving from SmartTrak to Suunto's software. SmartTrak is one of the best. To be charitable, Suunto's ... is not. One option is a third party solution like Diving Log, which can import from both. Edit: PM sent re SmartTrak password, thanks again, Mycroft. |

Thanks for the PW and the swift response compudude. I will try it out. Actually, I have a very low opinion of the smartrak sw. I find it has far too many fields which makes entering dive information a chore. Before I bought my smart pro, I used (paid for) wlog program which is excellent, but it wont talk to smart pro or suuntos. Having read around about the D9, I am not sure if we are going to get along; however, I would like to have all my dives in one log as I frequently refer back to site information.
Thanks again Charles |
