Thumbs down My new Smartcom failed..

I finished my ow certification this weekend at the Homestead Crater in Utah.
Then 10 minutes into the 1st dive my new Uwatec Smartcom failed, so I've got to get it replaced or fixed before my Mexico trip in a few weeks. We descended to the platform and I checked the computer, showed 19ft and the time was counting, then for some reason the next time I looked at it after doing some skills (maybe 5+ minutes) the depth just started showing 3 dashes and the time went to zero. The pressure reading was working fine. One of my instructors has the same computer and looked mine over and said not to worry that they would take care of it. I'll let you know how it turns out for me.
I was just curious if anyone else had a simmilar problem?

On April 5th, I bought it new from the place that I did my ow cert. with. This was the first "real" dive with it. I tried out all of my new gear after I got it in their pool. It worked fine in the pool.

Sounds like a fluke to me. I'm sure they'll work it out with you.

Hopefully the new one works out better. Unfortunately this model has a nasty reputation for failing quickly, although there are some out there that have gone the distance.

The D.shop is sending it back to Scubapro/uwatec for repair/replacement. They said that if it wasn't back before my trip on May 17th that they would give me a new one from the shop and work stuff out later with Scubapro. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

Sounds as though the pressure transducer went. Not all that unusual.

This model has a bad reputation, I've seen guys go through enough of them to outfit an expedition. Some people never have problems, but you'll find that even on this board there are users who've had 4 of them replaced under warranty.

It's not a fluke. Sorry to say.
