Should I buy Nitrox ready computer?
I will be getting certified OW in June and am looking at getting gear. I want to get a three gauge console with a pressure gauge compass and computer. Should I spend the extra $150 or so now and get a Nitrox compatible computer on not. None of the people I know who dive use Nitrox but I just do not know how popular it is and whether it is something I might want.

You will go nitrox sooner than later. You will be glad you don't have to spend more later. Unless you do as I just did. I bought an air only hocky puck for my daughter to fit in a console I slung across her chest so I can read it. It was new with warranty for about a hundred bucks. I have 2 other wrist nitrox computers. One of which she can use when nitrox certified. The air computer has a gauge mode and I can use it as a bottom timer.

Yes. Better have one that does more than what you need than less. Worth more if you ever decide to upgrade or find that diving isn't for you.

I don't think anybody that you talk to will tell you not to get a Nitrox ready computer. Even if your buddies dont dive Nitrox, if you do and follow the air tables they are on it will be an extra level of protection against decompression sickness. Plus, in all the money you are inevetably going to spend on gear, what is an extra $150 now to get something that you will need later on?

As everybody else has said, probably worth getting a nitrox computer.Especially if you think you might get into diving seriously.
Why do you want to put it in a console though? I know thats what most people do but IMHO your wrist is a much better place for a computer. |
