Sorry no they are not compatible with each other. but the software is free for what that is worth you most buy their cable, so if you have a Aeris then you will need the Aeris download cable and for the Oceanic you will have to use the Oceanic download cable! They are both made in the same factory side by side but they make sure they get every dollar they can...
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>But if you bought your computer from us we will make either one $50</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>Let me know if i can help! </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>Joe </DIV> <DIV></DIV>

There is alot more than a rectifier inside the plastics. This
data cable is a USB to Serial converter. The USB spec allows a Vendor ID and a product ID to be stored in a non volatile memory. This is used to allow the Host operating system to identify the USB device and attach the proper driver. In this case the device is a Serial to USB converter. While the hardware and circuitry of the Aeris and the Oceanic data cable are identical, the IDs programmed inside the chips are not. So the s/w can distinguish between the two versions. HOWEVER..... at the present time, there is only 1 driver and it recognizes either cable. And since the PC application (Oceanlog or ACI) does not currently check the IDs, either cable will work with either dive computer. (You can see the IDs if you dig in and look at the driver .INF file) So while this might change without notice in the future if Oceanic distributes updated/new drivers or s/w for Vista, at the present time either cable can be used. In fact through an odd sequence of events, my wife and I ended up with an oceanic data cable, even though we have Aeris AI computers. It works just fine. Several others on SB have reported using Aeris cables on Oceanic computers and one couple has one Oceanic and one Aeris computer and are using an Aeris cable to download them both. The PC software is obviously different. ACI for Aeris and Oceanlog for Oceanic. --- bill |
