BlackBerry dive software?
Planning on getting a BlackBerry soon. Does anyone know if there's any dive software available for them?
I figured this was the best forum for this thread, but mods feel free to move it if it belongs elsewhere. My figurer isn't always right. ![]() Brandon |

Just some food for thought - I recently replaced my Motorola Q with a BlackBerry - and I hate it! I use it mostly for e-mail and internet (being able to look up directions and such, and reading the news). The browser on the Windows-based Q was light years better, and the mail handler was, as well. It was a variant of Outlook, whereas the BlackBerry is some type of forwarding setup, with a difficult to use mail handler. Also much more difficult to find software for the BlackBerry.

I thought you owned a blackberry already, you said it rocked and all. I personally didn't find it to be a very useful phone. Screen was small and the only real thing about it I found to be nice was the keyboard.
As a phone and contact device it's pretty nice, as a PDA it's very limited from what little I've played with it. IE a buddy a work has one so I get to see it in action. Without hacks the ringtones are limited too, so keep that in mind. You can try mobideco if you want.

Get an iPhone!! I have had one since the original launch back in 2007, and love it. It is now an open platform for developers to write their own software, which means someone is bound to write a dive related application.
My mom bought a blackberry to replace her old flip phone, and hated it so much, she returned it and went back to using her aniquated nokia flip. IMO, the blackberry is not very user friendly or easy to navigate. |

Nope... I don't have one yet. But I've been researching A LOT over the last couple of months. I think the BlackBerry fits me best so far out of all the phones. The thing I love is that the Curve is not too big and packs a large punch. My main purposes for a phone are calling, email, browsing, and txt messaging in that order. So the BlackBerry fits pretty well.
I'm just kind of hoping there's some dive software out there for it. If not, its not a big deal as I also have a laptop... so thats easy enough. Not to mention I'll have an "analog" dive log. ![]() What is "mobideco"? Couldn't find anything via Google. Mark: How about neapolitan? ![]() Brandon |

![]() The BlackBerry's are open to development, too. In fact, they just released a new SDK. The problem is that I'm not an SD. ![]() I've played around on one and done quite a bit of research... I really like they way they work. I find them to be very intuitive. The iPhone has some serious downfalls for me. (note I did say "for me") I hate that there's no copy and paste (WHY IN THE WORLD NOT!?), there's no user replaceable battery, no stereo bluetooth, no external memory, etc., etc. I also need to stay with Verizon. ![]() Brandon |

Thanks mchain. I've got a buddy of mine who is pretty good at software development. He loves Java, so I'm going to see if he would look into a basic program for me since the new BB 4.5 SDK is out.
I think it should also work pretty well cross-platform if its Java... I'll have to check. Thanks! Brandon |
