Battery backup when new or later?

Hi all!

I'm taking and Advanced Diving I class this semester and I've decided to get a wetsuit and computer. Henderson 5mm Thermoprene and an Oceanic Geo to be exact.

I was wondering what you guys thought about backup batteries. I hate the thought of my battery dying in my computer and potentially at least making me work harder to dive when it can possibly be prevented.

However, I'm buying the computer new, so hopefully I won't need a battery any time too soon, but you never know.

What do you guys think? Would you buy a replacement battery when new or just wait at least (insert amount of time here) before getting one?

Thanks!

Brandon

Buy a new battery when it is about 50% and keep it with your save a dive kit. Replace it around 25% or before a really big trip.

Don't buy the backup battery TOO soon, else you'll have a backup battery with an extra year or two of shelf life taken out of it before you even get to use it!

I agree with SS... sounds like a good way to plan.

Awesome... thats kind of what I was thinking. I wouldn't suspect they'll degrade too much sitting around, but I most likely won't need one for a while. I won't be doing that many dives, anyway.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to order batteries on my next order! Computers at about 50% and I have a feeling they drop quicker once they cross that threshold =)
