There are several good, affordable computers out there. I would suggest getting one that is Nitrox ready. I use the Aeris XR2 myself but there are others in the same category.

I have the Aeris XR1. It is an inexpensive, easy to use, no frills computer. It is available in a wrist boot or in gauges. It is not nitrox capable so if you are looking into that in the future, you may want to look at the Aeris XR2 or Aeris XR1 NX.

The NX is a new one on me. I see the price of the XR2 has risen dramatically. What is the difference in these two computers? They seem alike for all intents and purposes.

The main difference I see is that the XR2 can be downloaded to your home computer and I don't believe the NX can.

Doesn't make since to me to make two computers so much alike and with such a big price difference.

My apologies to the OP.

That download thing is pretty pricey for what you get. You might try looking at the used gear Larry & Joe have on the site. I got a factory reconditioned Aeris Atmos 2 for $145. It's basically the same as the XR2, just layed out a little different.

I personally like the wrist mount gages, but consoles have a place also. For 1, you'll never forget your computer if it's in a console. This happened to me on a dive right after I switched from console to wrist.

FYI: Aeris & Oceanic are really the same computers, just cosmetically a little different. Plus they tend to be more on the liberal side. You can make them more conservative if you want to, so IMHO that's better than a conservative computer that gives less no deco time.

What's your budget?
Scuba Toys has some used ones you may consider. I bought one for about 1/2 of what a new one costs and am very happy with it.

Check out the Oceanic VEO 180 is my first PC. For the price it does just what it's supposed to and is Nitrox compatible. Only thing is that the one button setup is kind of a pain on intial setup.

I chose this computer for basically 3 reasons

1. BIG BIG BIG buttons, what a pain in the arse to fiddle with buttons when your wearing gloves.

2. Nitrox compatible

3. Wrist mount

An excellent computer IMO.
