If you have a PC, follow CFDAlden's link.

If you have a Mac, it's quite easy to download your dive profiles from your Gekko. You don't have to trick Suunto Dive Manager (SDM) into thinking the Gekko is a Vyper...or anything like that. Personally I don't like the look or feel of SDM when I ran it with my virtualization software. Instead, I'd recommend using a freeware software application called MacDive.

You still have to buy/make/borrow a Suunto download cable - the same one used for the Vyper/Vytec/Cobra/Mosquito. Here's a link to one with USB interface manufactured by UK company called Custom Idea. I believe the cables can also be obtained on Ebay.

Have fun with it...

Nice link to that cable, I hadn't seen the aftermarket one before. I'll have to grab one of those if I ever decide to download my Gekko. (It's just a backup)

Sorry, it's a terrible cable. They sent out two before I had to give up (neither worked). At least two years ago or so when I ordered, the quality was just really bad. I mean, sure, they're basically home built, but having them come apart in the mail (even if overseas) is a bit too much. Ended up just having to wait around for a good price on a Suunto.

I bought the ebay one for about $45 shipped. Came from a company in Germany, about one week later. Works great. No longer need to keep a log book.

The company out of Germany is who I used as well. I know 6 people who have purchased their cables, and not one has had a problem. Well, one person did not install the drivers, but that's a end user issue.

EDIT: Here's the company out of Germany: eBay My World - jonnywalker_de

I bought one of the German cables off eBay last year for ~$50. Worked great, except the driver wouldn't work with my computer, I finally used Suunto's driver and all was well.

I'm sorry that you had so many issues with the Custom Idea cable. I had one friend who purchased the Custom Idea cable and it continues to be functional (2+ years now). I guess his didn't come apart in the mail. If this were a known issue, you'd think the company would use small cardboard boxes which offered a little protection. Thanks for the info, Rainer. At least others seem to have had better luck with the German-made cables sold on Ebay.
