It would be helpful to know what kind of diving you plan to do following your training e.g. rec or tec, foreign travel to remote locations or local, is nitrox training planned? Will you want to download to a computer? - DRg

You don't need a dive computer to do any of those classes. That aside, if you just want a dive computer recommendation, I really like the Zeagle N2ition and the like. I personally wear a Suunto Vyper and a Cobra which I would recommend as well.

If you wanta console go with the Sherwood Wisdom 2. If you want a wrist computer I am a huge fan of the GEO's that you can find on Scuba Toys. But Sunnuto's are also amazing also.

We just bought Oceanic VT3s. Really nice air integrated, nitrox, hoseless computers. It would be a tiny bit more than your $700 budget, but with your ST discount, it would be close.

The Dive Rite Duo and its clones is one of the best bang for the buck computers around. Great for any recreational diving and also for "intro tech" or cave dives as it can handle 2 nitrox mixes.

I have an Aladin Prime on my console, but use my Oceanic VT3 hoseless air integrated as my primary. Both nitrox capable. I find the Oceanic more intuitive when going through the menues than the Aladin. I'm always going back to the quick reference to find where to go for what on the Aladin.

You don't need a computer for those classes. For Rescue it is liable to get mad at you anyway, although the profiles may be interesting to look at.

You don't really need to spend $700 on a computer either unless you really want the features. Your basic $300-400 computer will do the job just fine. It's one of the many things in scuba where more $ doesn't not necessarily mean better.
