General gear question!!

I just bought a Sherwood Wisdom 2 with AI. Do I need, or should I use, a spare analog gauge to monitor air pressure as a backup?

Thanks for the advice!!

I have the Wisdom 2 also. I don't use a redundant analog gauge but I will call the dive if the computer fails. I use a backup, wrist mounted computer, in case of a wisdom failure so I will know depth and time, but it is not AI.

I don't know anyone who doesn't dive with an analog back up, at least for depth. This is a good practice should you ever have to fall back on your tables.

What is a good backup at least for depth and/or tank pressure?

Honestly most any you buy these days will serve you well. They are all comparable in what they do, they all work on the same principle and are not super expensive. Since you already have Sherwood why not look at some of their gauges.

Just go to the top of this page, on the right, and click on the SCUBA Toys emblem and start looking.

Me neither.

IF my Wisdom2 were to fail, I'd simply thumb the dive and ascend.

I guess not. But then you own it all and have access to as many computers as you need. So I'm not sure that counts.

I don't use an analogue backup when I was looking for a computer, I wanted to have a pressure gauge, and depth gauge as back up, but I could not come up with a way to do it without another HP port on my first stage, well that opens up all other kinds of issues, so after talking to my shop, and instructors I decided that a commuter failure ends the dive.
