If your doing serious work with a compass go with the retractor.
Make sure you read the other posts on this board re the Northern and Southern Hemisphere compasses and 6 degree variance. (apparently) Suunto compass is the best. Kraks

I want the sk7 for accurate navs. It's easier to hold if you have the retractor set up. some people like the wrist but I want a little more flexibility. it will be worth th $100 for this set up. +/- 30 tilt capability is great. its hard to tell if you are holding it flat. think about reference points....a sloping bottom, yourself (are you sure you are flat), your buddy (are you sure they are flat), the surface (if you can figure out how that would work you are amazing.

Buy the SK7 and put it either on your wrist or as part of your console - otherwise it is just one more thing dangling off of you.
If on the wrist buy the cheapest version you can find and then mount it on DDS mount which is much lower profile than the Suunto wrist mount. Last edited by ScaredSilly : 08-27-2007 at 02:19 PM. |
