They are essentially the same computer. The only difference is the size.

If you have good eyes, you can use either. The bigger display will always be easier to read at a glance, so that will get my vote.

The Atom makes a better watch, however.

Personally, I already have a watch, so I'd take the bigger, easier-to-read size, even though my eyes are fine.

I have the VT3, it's an awesome computer and very easy to read. Unless I start using trimix it's going to last me for a long time because it can go up to 100% O2.

<DIV>IMO best of the best and user replaceable batteries to boot. Common buy at the store down the block type as well. Well thought out.</DIV>

If I recall on the Atom you have to cycle through a few various screens to really get all the information you can get on a single screen with the VT3. Since I use dive computers only for diving and not a watch I think the VT3 is the better choice. It also has the buddy check feature so you can read your buddy's transmitter so you can see how much air he or she has left, provided they are diving an oceanic/aeris transmitter on their first stage. I don't believe the Atom does that.

EDIT: As pointed out by Compudude the Atom 2.0 does support the wireless buddy check.

I own the VT3. Easy to navigate, large numbers/letters, it's AI so you get tissue loading stats etc... &lt;borat&gt; VERY NICE! &lt;/borat&gt;

I doubt you'll go wrong with either, but the VT3 is the best choice IMO.

It does, actually, per ST's description:

"The Atom 2 Buddy Pressure Check™ allows you to receive and monitor your "Buddy's" air pressure"

But I agree with your preference for the VT3 for the same reasons you stated. If I didn't have the Uwatec computer I currently have, I'd probably be diving a VT3.

I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.

You might be thinking of an issue with the Atom 1.0. On the older model you had to cycle to a different screen to see cylinder pressure. On the 2.0 it is displayed on the main screen. The Atom 2.0 doesn't display everything on one screen, but you can still see all important info at a glance.
