Oceanic Veo in boot / computer cable

I just bought a Oceanic VEO 180Nx, It is going in my consule boot. I am thinking about getting the download cable and was wondering how to make easy to download. Do I want to cut a hole in the side of the boot or will this comprimise the boot somehow?

MY VEO 250 had a hole in the boot for the download cable. I still had to remove the computer and drill that hole out, bigger, to allow the cable to plug in nicely and work. The computer connectionsa re exposed to the open water through the hole and it hurts nothing. That is the way it came.

I'm putting it into an older boot with my spg so there is no hole.

I would just cut away... there is nothing in the side of the housing that you'll hurt... I do recommend waiting until you get the download cable before doing any cutting - you will need it to make sure your hole is the correct size and placement - part of it is kinda big...

If I wait for the download cable will the water activation work. The manual says it activates when the download pins and the activation button is crossed with water. If there is no hole will water get to it?

I don't see it being sealed that well, but you could at least put a hole through the side of the console right down the middle, then when you get the downloader, enlarge as needed...

I would bet the water can get in there to activate it. My guess is a bigger concern might be getting water unable to drain from the boot and trapped against those contacts. The VEO will show "H20" on the display when this happens.

Definitely cut a hole in the side of the boot to let the download cable in and the water out.

Ok, I put the small hole in the side for water. Looking closer at the VEO180 it looks like the cable comes in from the bottom. When it is in it's spacer boot it looks like the side is where it connects. But when I looked at the connection point closer there appears to be some grooves in it that would suggest a bottom connection. Does anyone have this computer and know for sure?
