Aeris Atmos 2 Computer

After everyones good advice on all the different computers, I purchased the Aeris Atmos 2 for my first dive computer.
I have read the manual and will be playing the pool trying to get to know how to work it brfore our big trip.

Does any one have any secret tricks or advice on getting to know this computer.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

Any advice would be wonderful.

Thank you

Ken

Ken,

No real secrets or tricks with the Atmos 2. It's a good all around air / nitrox computer. I sugest you spend time reading the manual and playing with the buttons to make sure you are familiar with it. Some might not feel the control functions to be intuitive, but when you multi-function the buttons that's bound to be the case. I prefer fewer buttons there to potentially fail. Sounds like you're on the right track with a good choice in hardware. Best of luck and safe diving!

I've got roughly 80 dives with my Atoms 2 and don't have any issues or material advice. Just make sure you set things up to your satisfaction before you dive (although you can always change them). Specifically water activation, sample frequency and if you use Nitrox, does it default to 50% between dives forcing you to reset the setting based upon the O2 % in your new tank instead of staying with the 02 from you last tank.

Once you are in the water, it's extremely straight forward, the two buttons give you all information and turn the backlight on...

Getting options setup beforehand is kinda pain in the ass, though is fairly straightforward, though time consuming... I recommend the download cable, as using it will allow you to use your home pc to set these options easily...

OFF

Is there a way to turn it off? I can not find it in the manual and it seems to stay on for a long time before it turns it self off?

nope, no way to turn it off...

assuming you turn it on just to check it or change settings, it will stay on for an hour or two (I don't recall which)... If you dive, it stays on until its safe to fly...

Bear in mind that it is aggressive as computers go. If it goes into the yellow thats fine, but hang out at the safety stop until it goes green.

I have only ever done a couple of dives where I got out with it in the yellow.Really enjoyed going to sleep after those dives

Lets see I can give you some tips. One make sure you make the setting what you want them to be (do this by holding both buttons down and waiting till it says set 2 then scroll thru the setting by pressing the top button.) You cannot change setting underwater so make sure u have it set to either imperial, or metric setting s (I had this problem it was set on metric and I couldnt change it untill I got back on the boat) Also if it has the low battery indicatir blinking as you turn it on disregard this alot of people have this problem and there is a post about this on scuba board. That low battery indicator should go away within 5min

If you're diving nitrox, make sure you turn the 50% default setting to "off". Otherwise if you forget to set your blend for the second dive, it'll default to 50%, making for a very shallow dive!

If you do choose to set the default to "off" be very, very, sure to check the mix setting before each dive.
If you dive,say,36% one day then dive air the next the computer will still be set to 36%.
About the only thing I do not like about my Aeris is that it does not display the 02 % on the main screen, and in fact it is not possible to check the 02% during a dive.

I messed up once, looked at the NDL at 100 feet and knew it was set to 32% rather than the air I was actually diving. Fortunately I had a good idea of the NDL for air and for 32% so figured out what the problem was, could have been nasty otherwise.
