Cool Cochran Reputation

Does Anyone Have Experience With Cochran Dive Computers, I Went To Get Some Information And My Dive Shops Opinion On The Computer And He Totally Dog The System Out. I Should Go To The Army Divers On My Post And Ask Them, Since They Use The Same Computers The Navey Uses, Anyways I Keep Reading About Cochran Failures And Their Reputation For Customer Service Is Not Good I Hear. Any Information Would Be Much Appreciated

The Navy/ CG uses Cochrans, but until very recently, it was only for rebreathers. SCUBA they just use guages. Computers have either just been approved or will soon be approved for SCUBA and surface-supplied.

The Navy is also coming out with new (slightly more conservative) dive tables.

I'm not impressed with their computers to be honest. I prefer Oceanic for my usage.

I have an old Cochran Commander, and have to admit it's been a good computer for me... BUT, a serious pain in the @ss to scroll through and change settings. You have to take something metallic and bridge the terminals on the side to scroll and change settings..... a real hassel on dry land, not to mention a boat. I have heard horror stories about problems, and customer service... Luckily, I guess I got a "good" one..? As a side note, I'm kinda hoping it will crap out so I can justify getting the VT3!!

There are some die-hard fans out there.

But most people who have expressed an opinion on them have had nothing whatsoever to say about them that I can repeat in a family-friendly forum.

big and cumbersome... not what I want in a dive computer... the wireless AI units have a HUGE transmitter looks like you are trying to call China from underwater with... then the person who designed the screen has to have had some weird mixture of good and bad eyesight - the screen is not very straightforward or easy to read, but it too, is huge...

and I've never used one, just checked them out in the shop...
