SPG with Wireless AI
Might be a silly question, but here goes:
I have an Aeris Atmos Elite, and I want to add a SPG to my rig for redundancy. Seeing that I wear my computer on my left wrist, the transmitter is attached to the left side HP port in my first stage. The only other HP port is on the right side, so attachment of the SPG would obviously have to be there. Now, is it a faux-pax to run the SPG hose on the rigth side of my BC? I've been taught that reg and octo are on the right, and inflator and gauges should be on the left. It doesn't seem like a major issue to me, but I'm just curious as to what the rest of the diving community has to say about this. Thanks. |

I would wear your computer on the right wrist. Then the transmitter is on the same side, and SPG goes down the left side as usual.
Right wrist for comps is more standard anyway. Keeps the left hand free to work the BC inflator and hold the light, all while keeping your eyes on the comp. Especially during ascents... hard to watch your comp and vent your BC at the same time when it's on the left. |

It's more convenient to use the computer on the right because it won't register the rapid up and down movement of the arm, some computers complain about that. However, you'll probably find it works just as well on the other side.
I keep mine on the right. IMO stay with the standards, when I dive with new buddies I often peek at their SPG and if you moved it I wouldn't be able to see it easily. I like to keep track of their air usage, I've had one too many run low because I trusted them to tell me how much they had and let them monitor their air supply. I still let them, but I'm watching them and will turn the dive when I notice their getting to the turn pressure, often without them even knowing I watched them. I like standards.

I have my Suunto transmitter on my right side HP port and a Halcyon Brass/glass SPG on my left. I also dive with a Suunto D9 on my left and Suunto Vytec on my right. I have the D9 on my left as I always wear it there even when on land. I never had any issues with any of the computers when they are on either arm.
