I've used Scuba with Alison for years now. She'll keep our regs, BCDs & fins for us each trip. She's pretty meticulous about her rental gear and her boat. (Makes sense since she is the owner, instructor & DM all rolled into one!) She has commented on the great condition my gear is in after 6+ years of diving, so I know she pays attention to the details. I trust her with my gear. Don't know how many ops I would say that about ....

Along the same lines....I don't use the common barrel or bucket for rinsing my mask....yuck.
And the last liveaboard we were on just threw the used dive deck towels in the dryer without washing them....yuck.

Okay ... that's pretty bad! Not to mention what it was probably doing to the dryer with all the salt from the towels!

Hi I usually dive with Scubamaucozumel. They will clean your gear there. I usually clean my own gear in fresh water at the tank. I like to clean and store my own gear. I have watched Ichi clean gear and he is very careful with the gear. He drains the tank regularly so it is pretty clean water. It's not that I dont trust him to clean my gear, I dont trust anyone with my very expensive regulator, computer, wet suit, camera. I'm just not that hollywood enough to have my gear looked after. If I had a personal valet walking ten paces behind me then maybe, he'd better open my mexican ferrari door also or I'm gonna fire his butt. I live in Canada and we dont have anyone here fawning over us. When I go anywhere it doesn't feel right to have someone else working my gear. There's one other thing at pressure I've seen my fellow divers with squinty eyes and this satisfied look coupled with them pulling their wetsuit neck out to I think 'flush' their suits. O I've never done that. hehehe. I dont care how kinky it is I'm not gonna wash my gear in your peerinse. Now what was the question?

I would rather clean my own gear. You know what your getting. Nothing worse than a false expectation.

Good to hear. I have her booked for our Jan cruise stop at Coz. She said her boat holds 8- we take 5 of those spots. It will (likely) be my first dive after cert so I didn't want a cattleboat experience.

You don't know what you are missing here, but if it really bothers you, avoid getting close, I regularly provide warm current in the ocean.

A few years back someone did some research on how clean peoples equipment was. Initial assumption was the people who rinsed the gear in the rinse tanks had the cleaner equipment. At the end of the research they found the people who rinsed their gear at the shop had the most bacteria on the gear. Those rinse tanks can become breeding grounds for all kinds of nasty things.

I used to get sinus infections all the time during a dive vacation. Now, I always take my gear back home/hotel/etc. and rinse my gear using the shower and tub. Haven't had a sinus infection since.
Ugh.

Like I said: If they want to "hose off" my gear... (other than my regs, which of course I take with me)

If they're using rinse tanks, fuggedaboudit. No touchee.
ditto..... I take mask, reg, and camera gear back to room along with my wetsuit and booties. All go into the shower with me, then air dry on balcony! My BC I usually dip in rinse tank, then rinse off with shower at dock.
I was always shocked at the slime and gunk floating in rinse tanks in Cozumel. Gag....

EXCEPTION - CCV resort, Roatan! Only my camera goes back to room there.

Best dockside system I have EVER seen is at CoCoView:

each boat has 2 camera rinse tanks and also 2 gear rinse tanks, and they change the water in them at least twice per day! Then they have showers and racks to hang things out in sun. No they don't do it for you but they don't need to!! Couldn't be easier!

each boat has its own gear storage room, too.

Just another reason we are so SPOILED by CCV and planning to go back there in a few months. They have a system down and it works.
