Weight Pockets for BP/W
Any good suggestions? I have been using two XS Scuba Quick Attach Weight Pockets, placing them closest possible to the plate on my waist belt. They're ok, can't hold too much weight, but the problem I find is it tends to slide around. I'm trying to find a good solution, I don't want to wear a weight belt.

I use the XS pockets on my wifes rig. To keep them from sliding you can use a weight retainer like this...Or use another buckle to retain the right hand side like a can light.

I know that it is not "PC". But, I ditched the weight pouches and strung two 2lb hard weights on my backplate waist belt. You can hold them in place with weight keepers or just give the belt a 1/2 twist while threading the weights. I know that I am in the minority when I say that a runnaway ascent (lost weight) is worse that having to swim up. I carry a lift bag that could be used in case of total bladder failure. Or, if all else fails, I could dump the whole rig and do a swimming ascent.
For the lawers out there: This setup works for me. I am aware of the risks/benifits and have chosen this setup for myself. I am not endorsing this for anybody else. Please, make your own educated decision. Happy diving.

XS Scuba makes a ditchable weigh pouch now.
https://www.divesports.com/mall/xssc...Rweightpkt.asp It's just their regular pouch, upside down, with an elongated pull tab. Get a pair of these with a couple weight belt keepers and your set.

I use the XS SCUBA pockets unless I'm using my drysuit. Then I add Apeks pockets. I had to modify them a bit because I didn't want to buy the $40 BP attachments. I just put a grommet on both sides of the belt. Here's a picture
http://forum.scubatoys.com/gallery/s...&imageuser=269 It works great. Nothing slides & I can take them off when I don't need them.

Also, with a backplate system, you normally have: For singles, two straps holding the tank to the rig. You could use those XS scuba weight pouches on those straps. Put the pouches on the lower band if you need weight south. Put them on the upper band if you need the weight north. For doubles, you can do all kinds of things with tail pouches and v-weights. DSS also sells weight plates that bolt directly to your backplate. These weight plates are designed for DSS backplates so I don't know if they can be retrofitted to any other brand of backplate though. |

I took the rear weight pockets off my Zeagle Ranger, installed a couple grommets in each, run the waist webbing through, and attach them to the plate through the grommets with thumb screws. Nice ditchable weight pockets right at my side for single tanks. For doubles, I don't need any weight to get down. I use a drysuit and lift bags for redundant buoyancy in the event I need it to get back up, though it's not too bad to swim the rig up either.
