Their reels ("safety spools") look really nice. I wonder if the winding handle is a PITA in a DS pocket, though... I'll have to ask back on the TDS thread.

In the video the unit seems to work smooth......I am going to get one of the large reels and give it a try....at the cost you can hardly go wrong.

Just ordered one tonight after hearing about the reels a little bit ago. Check these videos out:
YouTube - What Works, Works! - Safety Reel Test
YouTube - What Works, Works - Running Line
YouTube - What Works, Works! - Shooting A Bag

It was $59+6 S/H. Figured it was worth a try, and the videos are pretty convincing.

I'll post a review on the reel once I try it, not sure when I will be getting in the water though, these pesky classes tend to get in the way.

Yes, I saw the vids posted on the TDS thread when he first announced them. Very nice. I'm tempted, but I have more than enough finger spools right now, and it's hard to justify $60 vs. $15 at the moment.

I'm sure I'll pick one up at some point, but now ain't that point...

Sorry, missed the thread on tds. I had found out about them from caves&bunnies on tds when I was looking to get some other gear, and he added that he was selling the reels, but i just found the thread now.

I'd agree that they cost more than a decent finger spool, but they are also smaller and cost less than a decent reel. Oh, and my experieces with trying to teach my dad how to shoot a bag have ended up in him either
1) dropping the spool
2) getting his other fingers stuck in the spool somehow

Hopefully he will do better with this. No promises.

Oh and winding a spool up is a pain in the a**

I already have a Salvo 400' reel, else I'd probably be all over these.

They're really nice. Delrin fly reel... one of those obvious things that no else had thought of yet.

I can't wait to see what my fundies instructor's reaction is the first time I bring one of those babies out, though. LOL

I'd love to see the look on other divers faces when I shoot a bag and then let go of the reel and it just stays there midwater. Pretty cool design, I'm only getting one for now to see how it handles sand and shore dives, since most of my diving is shore diving.

Sand+quickrings=bad. Had enough experience with that....

These seem to be easy to clear though, so we'll see.
