Gone is the Octo??

Does the octo go bye, bye if you are diving a single tank and carrying a pony? Solo or with a buddy?

I was told by someone who recently finished a solo course that it was either gone or put out of the way.

I would say you bungie it and make it your backup. Then it won't matter what you do diving.

I sure would keep in the sake of saftey. Just think of it as a back up for your self even though there you have a pony.

I'd keep it just in case there are 2 people in trouble.

I'm not changing hoses from 1 rig to the next. My singles rig has an octo, and when I travel, I don't take a pony. So it's the same when I dive locally even when I carry a pony.

I keep it, mostly for flexibility and so I can take or leave my pony on a particular dive (or pass it off to another diver during a dive) without having to count 2nd stages every time.

I'm still planning to have the oct on the main tank as well as the pony (19 cu ft) Possibly slung like a stage bottle-haven't totally figured it out yet. I still consider the pony as my last ditch to make a safe ascent/safety stop so I will use the octo if possible.
