Cold water and drysuit, splits never did the trick for me. Way too mushy. I like my slipstreams for such occasions (I'm kinda feet heavy). I now dive V-16's almost exclusively, and in all conditions. I can frog kick with them too. I had my doubts as to whether they would provide the propulsion I needed for drift dives (cross current, going back, etc) but they do fine. I think it's more technique than anything.

I have a pair of splits that I used for awhile after I hurt my knee playing hockey. They really helped allow me to dive without stressing my knee. Frog kinking in stiff fins left my knee hurting. Splits are fine if your doing a flutter kick but really don't work well for frog kicks. I but to my regular fins and frog kicking.

I think the split fin vs paddles is overblown. Both work well for different styles of diving.

True, but this is a tech forum. Paddle fins such as Jets or Slipstreams are more the norm when diving with doubles and drysits in technical diving.

I am the opposite, actually bought a larger pair of Twin Jets (old style) so I can use them with my drysuit. Large - booties, XL for the Drysuit, and Full foot for Carribean, Twin Jets rocks

Any fins are better than no fins

I've seen some people capable of wicked frog and back kicks with splits, but never anyone who said they preferred them to paddle fins for technical propulsion.

No...you're right. We all eventually will, and there's nothing any of us can do to stop it.

I think I'm going to pick up a pair of JetFins. There's a place in Austin selling used ones for 20 bucks. Can't hurt to give it a try at that price
