Reel dumb reel question (get it?)

I am almost embarassed to ask this, but, what the heck. I am going to reveal my obvious lack of training and experiene. I just got my new reel, how the heck am I supposed to attach it to an anchor line? I can see how to attach it to something that is open on one end (ie the top of a pole). The loop on the end is not big enough to slide the reel through. I know I can retie it to make the loop bigger, but is this correct, I can see if potentially causing more tangles, just wanted to check.

My Halcyon has a large loop on it, in fact all of mine have loops on them long enough to pass either the reel or spool through it. I suppose if you don't want a larger loop you could use a double ender.

That would never happen. Like said either tie the larger loop or use double ender. You can leave the small loop to help pull the line off of what you tie off to. Helps alot when wearing gloves.

Good point about the extra loop (at the very end of the bigger loop). Without it, it's nearly impossible to undo the reel with dry gloves.

Or any gloves for that matter

I make a bigger loop by simply passing the rope back through the loop, having the second loop to help undo it is a good idea.
