I just got the new BP/W and got it set up today. One thing that stuck me as odd is the bottom OPV. Why is it on the inside of the wing (facing twards my butt)? I would think that it should be on the back of the wing. I guess just because that is the way my BC is. I am sure that there is an explanation for it, I just do not know..
Thanks Phil |

It seems dificult at first to realize it, but that is where it belongs.
Remember, you only use that pull dump when horizontal or head down. When heads down, that is the high point of the wing. When horizontal and the bubble is there, the wing will wrab your cylinder putting the dump facing out away from the cylinder. When you pull the chord you pull away from your butt. The wing will vent in both cases. Now if the dump were facing backwards, as you look at it, it will sit against your cylinder when you are horizontal because the bubble will migrate there. ( If there was no bubble, no matter, as you would not be venting.) In the case of a rear facing valve you could not pull the chord because the cylinder would be in the way. Dive rite tried to build a wing with the dump facing backwards and the chord routed to the front. The problem with that, when you pulled the string, you were also pulling the dump valve downward. The air won't go down. I am making any sense? Perfectly logical once you use it. edit: a typical jacket BC does not wrap your cylinder as a wing does so the OPV has to face away from you Last edited by Splitlip : 08-10-2007 at 11:32 PM. |

Yes that does make sense to me... I guess I did not think about the fact that the wing would wrap around the tank when I am in the water... Thank you for clearing that up... Phil |

Well I did dive it yesterday and still have some adjustments to be made to the harness to get it right. The OPV will take some getting use to though, because I had to roll on my side to use it. It still just seems odd to be for it to be where it is. Like I said before I am sure it is there because it is the best place for it.

Even though the wing is a donut, you may have to help the bubble migrate from right to left. I do it by kind of swinging my hips. You'll get used to it. |

The wing did not wrap up around the tank at all it just stuck straight out, so the valve was facing down when I was horizontal. I do not know if it is because the wing is so new and not broken in yet? It was not a huge deal I just had to roll a few degrees to get air to come out of it. It is just different than I am use to. I am sure that overtime it will just be second nature...

Small wings don't taco like too large in size wings. The do move up the sides of the tank a little but it's not going to be wrapped tightly over it. If you dive with another dive using a BP/W you'll notice that. Typically the wing is mostly deflated with drysuit divers and a wetsuit diver will have more air in it down deep.
