4 d-rings and 6 retainers?

Why do some of the BP/W packages come with four D-rings and SIX retainers. What are the other two retainers for?

I think you use them on the shoulders. You'd thread the webbing through the shoulders then attach the retainers there to hold it in place? Or would the wing hold that in place and you use the retainers at the bottom of the plate?

Its for setting the shoulder strap length at the bottom of the plate. The wing bolt sets the strap on the top of the plate.

What is the reasoning behind that? Seems one would need a different adjustment in that area for different forms of exposure protection.

Right. And you can adjust. Helps prevent slipping and losing the adjustment.

It's so that it is adjustable when you want it to adjust, not when it just slips by. (although the webbing does hold on pretty good, especially when wet)

not really, cause the webbing takes on some shapes and bends and it makes it kind of a pain in the arse to do it. I look forward to never having to adjust mine.

I find mine easy to adjust, and I have marks on the webbing indicating placement for my various suits, so I don't have to re-fit the harness to adjust the size.

never knew that..so the retainers go at the bottom of the shoulder straps on the back side i.e. the side the tank sits?
