Dual Bladders

I am using an OMS Dual Bladder and I am planning on using a Scuba Pro Air 2 on one bladder? I have heard great idea and bad idea both. Some tech divers I have talked to say attach it ang go, while my LDS says it has to have a "special adapter" to use? Please give insight.

Thanks

There is another active thread that has gotten sidetracked into "Octo-Inflator: Great streamlining device or agent of the devil?"

Had first "real" OOA incident at depth...

He is just waiting for the debate to start over here too.

If you want to use it, I would first get a set of calipers out and see if it will fit. If the diameteres are close, go for it.

Personally, I am not a fan of Power Inflator/Octo combos but I will respect those who have them. (wasn't inpressed withthe airII when it came out in '84.)

My air2 uses a different size connection than the normal inflator. I have a Sherwood Gemini and it is for sale if anyone is interested.

Well, to answer your original question, The air 2 requires a propriatary lp qd hose connection . A standard inflator QD will not work. Zeagle's Octo Z and Atomic SS1 will work. Don't know for sure about Oceanic/Aeris. The original USD airsource would not. Don't know about the others out there.

In response to this question, I have had my ass flamed in this sub-forum reponding with other than the "DIR" answer.

I anticipate flames because neither a dual bladder nor an Air 2 is DIR. For my part, I have no issues with them provided you know their limitations.

In any case, if it was me, I would not use an air 2 in a techical configuration. I am assuming you still have a 2nd stage necklaced. No need to add a third which becomes another potential free flow and additional task loading. AND....I would not even consider connecting the inflator for the redundent bladder.

The biggest concern GUE has with dual bladders (and I agree)is the potential for it to fill slowly without your knowledge, or a runaway inflation leaving you with 2 inflators to struggle with. My opinion, simply leave it disconnected as it is only there in the event of failure of your primary.

What do you mean by "just being you"?

Usually when you see the popcorn eating smiley, the person expects that there will be several . . . . . ummm . . . . opinionated responses, and they want to just watch and be entertained. If you posted you question in a few other nameless boards, there would be about 10 pages already, and you would need a 7mm wetsuit, or at least very thick skin.

Don't get me wrong. I personally think you should dive whatever you like. But there are some very passionate (and vocal) people in the DIR crowd. FWIW, Splitlip gave you some excellent advice IMHO.

What kind of diving are you doing. Your using a dual bladder wing which is normally considered a tec. setup. Are you diving steal doubles wet? I have no problem with octo/inflator combos and used one myself for years and still do on some dive but not when doing true tec. dive, wreck penetrations/deco.

I needed an adapter when I used an AIRII on my Oceanic BC. This was to attach the inflator hose to the BC as Oceanic used a small hose then everyone else. I have used hose made by Oceanic with smaller end on one side. Worked fine. Also used an adopter made by Scubapro. Actually used two of them and broke both. It was a plastic piece that reduced the AIRII opening to the Oceanic size. Crack on both I used. Not a good design.

Also, if you do decide to go with the SP Air2, place it on the inflator hose on your right. this is the inflator you will use 99% of the time. The inflator that in on the left read of the BS is the back up. Don't use both at the same time. Not saying you didn't know this, but I have had folks inform me that each bladder of a 60# dual baldder is 30# so you start with one and go to the other if you need more lift.
