Waist Strap Routing
I notice a while back a group of divers that hand their waist strap routed from the back of plate just like the one below but these were on standard plates. I didn’t think anything of it till Eric (the maker of the Freedom Plate) stated that he preferred the straps routed though the back of the plate. He stated that it keeps the plate closer to his back giving a lower profile and more comfortable. Anyone else do this?

I dove my Freedom Plate for the first time last weekend during our LDS’s buoyancy class at the pool and the straps route behind the plate holds the in tight against your back. I also tried to the straps from behind on a standard plate and found it to be really unconformable. It reduces the length of the shoulder straps that it was hard to don and doff the rig. I would not recommend it with a standard plate but the Freedom plate works great.
