BG, I think I understand that you are asking to get an idea for a weight to start with for yourself. To be honest, this will be VERY independant to the diver. What I would strongly suggest is to spend an afternoon in a pool playing with different weight amounts until you figure out what works with your set up and your body. You don't even have to use a tank as the boyency characteristics of tanks are well known. HOWEVER, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A SAFETY DIVER OR BUDDY if you go without the tank. It would REALLY SUCK to find out you are overweighted without air.

I have a couple of Zeagle BPW setups (SS and AL). From memory when I am diving (AL80) in boardshorts with my Al BP setup I use 12lbs in the Zeagle zip pockets and 6lbs with the SS BP. With the 3mm maybe add 3lbs max. Thats diving in saltwater too.

I would start with that amount and go from there. Less if in freshwater.

I am also 6'3 and 270lbs on a good day which should be added to the equation.

Play around with your weight and see what works for you. Remember that you need less weight in fresh than salt. Start off a little bit heavy and work from there.
I prefer Steel cylinders over Aluminium as they are little more heavy in the water. You can drop from 3-5lbs if using steels. I use no extra weight when using steel cylinder and SS BP while I am diving in board shorts.

In a 3 ml or swim trunks I do not use any weight with a steel plate and single tank adapter.

I use 16 pounds in a 5 mm compressed neoprene drysuit, but I think I can cut that down now that I have been diving the combo for a while.
