I'm not sure they are still around. Their website is down, so I don't know their status. But at least their model had another job.

I just purchased a hammerhead backplate a month or so ago. It is my fist plate but I really like it. The people there were nice to talk to also.

I heard rumors about them stopping backplate sales, and when I tried them the other day, I just figured that it finally happened. Sure glad I was wrong.

Ok the question came up about what kind of tank I was using, so I did some research, broke out my NAUI book on tank identification and went through some digital pictures I took.

Luxfer AL80 3000 PSI 77.4 c.f.
-1.4 lbs boyant full
+1.5 lbs half full
+3.4 lbs @ 500 psi
31.4 lbs (empty)
7.25 inch diameter
26.1 inch cylinder length.

Point Taken: 31.4 lbs of weight from a tank being completely empty would suck at 110 feet. From my point of view I never plan on having my tank that low at such a depth. Thats just like stupid on my part. If you look at "low air" which is like 500 psi its only 3.4 lbs and honestly 500 is probably not enough air to even safetly do all the decompression stops/saftey stops. And a 30 lb wing would do perfectly fine keeping the tank with a "little" air in it. (i'm talking say 300 psi when you should be on the surface).

My current plan is:
Dive Rite Basic Harness
Dive Rite Alum. Plate
Oxy Cheq Mach V #30
Stainless Steel Cam Latch Straps

Now I just need to start researching regulators and computers to go with it.

Thanks everyone for your input!!!

The empty weight(31.4) is on dry land on a scale. in water empty maybe 4lbs positive.

WaScubaDude is correct. Dry weight on land is only relevant to your aching back when you're lugging it from the car to the boat. Once you get in the water, only buoyancy matters. The Al.80 is +3.4 empty weight, and -1.4 full, so if you add that up you'll see the buoyancy swing from full in-water weight (aka buoyancy) to empty is 4.8 lbs. That's the figure you need to work with in determining weighting needs.

Either way, though, you're right and it is highly unlikely you'll need anything other than the 30# wing.
