What SMB fits?
What SMB or safety sausage (whatever you want to call it), is out there with the options of inflating it underwater with the octo, hooking to a spool and used at a safety stop, orally inflated at the surface if need be, and semi-sealed at the bottom so it doesn’t lose air if it breaks the surface? In addition, small enough to clip on to a D ring. The Zeagle looks like it comes close but uses a pouch instead of just clipping to a D ring. Does the Dan SS have these options?

I think so. What size did you need, though? And for what purpose? The DAN one is good, but it's pretty big. May be overkill, depending on your local needs and conditions.
If smaller ones will do the trick, you'll have an easier time storing them. Most are oral-inflate only, however, and sealed. I like the Halcyon and DeepSeaSupply smaller SMBs best, but if you really need a large one, get a larger one. They're not especially necessary for most recreational dives here in SoCal. |

Plus, those small, surface only, inflatables, have a very limited use. Maybe in freshwater, with no current or waves, but any ocean diving, they don't do work that well. |

Yes. You can inflate through the baffle using a second stage purge button or BC dump valve or you can inflate orally or with the LP inflator hose.
I agree that it's on the large side but for ocean diving around here bigger is definitely better. FWIW, it has a pouch which contains a mirror, chemical light stick, and whistle. |
