OMS or Diverite?

Does anyone have a preference? What are the pros and cons? I am leaning heavily towards DiveRite as I prepare mentally and technically for more advanced diving. Ring in and let's talk!

It depends on what your talking about. Backplates? Wings? Lights? Fins? You're going to have to be more specific. In general, it's apples and oranges - there is a large amount of people on each side that'll swear there's is better. Getting into more specific items is when there might be one leader over another.

Nitro... I am talking primarily about the harness and wing systems. Should have mentioned that. Thanks for the response.

BP/W? I prefer http://deepseasupply.com.

To answer your question, I prefer the DiveRites for a BP/W. Why? It's the only on I am familiar with between OMS and DiveRite. Ohh and ScubaToys.com sells them.

ScubaToys sells OMS as well.

I just got my OMS bp/w set up. So far I'm happy enough with it, and I don't have enough experience with diverite to be able to know the difference. I have heard some horror stories about OMS customer service, and I've not heard much one way or the other about Dive Rite. My LDS sells both, and I just liked the way the OMS one felt over the Dive Rite one.
Since I deal with my LDS, and they've been around for a long time and aren't showing many signs of slowign down, I figured they can handly any OMS specific customer service issues . . . and really, how badly can I need manufacturer support for 2" webbing?

Having used some dive rite gear I think I prefer them, but honestly, when it comes down to a BP/W I'd buy either DSS or Oxycheq and nothing else.

I like the DSS myself, but both are good.

OMS makes some nice stuff and some terrible stuff. The problem isn't the quality, it's the design, IMO.

DiveRite, on the other hand, makes some fairly well designed stuff, but tends to use less rugged materials than OMS.

For plates, either company is fine... a steel plate is a steel plate.

For harnesses, I prefer a simple hog (or "basic") harness from either, with the TransPlate harness from DiveRite as a second choice.

For wings, I would not look to either company. Don't forget you can mix and match brands very easily... no need to stick to one company. I would look at the OxyCheq wings to use on either company's plate.

Both OMS and Dive Rite are good products....I persl. prefer of these two, Dive Rite, but even 'more prefer' Zeagle. Backplate Systems- Standard Harness Zeagle Systems - Scuba Diving Equipment Manufacturer

I don't care for the (IMHO poorly designed) DiveRite RecWing, but it's the only one of their wings I've tried. I don't have much direct experience with OMS wings either. I guess what I'm trying to say is that neither company makes a BP/W that I would put in my top 3.

Personally, I think the backplate choice is trivial, but for wings I'm solidly in the OxyCheq camp. I like Halcyon from a quality standpoint, but I think the 'brand name' price is too high.

If I had to choose one of the two you suggested though, I'd probably go with OMS. I do like the design and construction of SOME of their wings quite a bit, but there too I think the prices are high for what you get compared to the high 'bang for your buck' OxyCheq gives you.
