Question DIR Hoses For Rec diving?

I was thinking about switching to a Tec length hose on either my octo (for regular rec sharing) or my primary reg. Would it be worth it? My reg is new and needs to be "Dealer serviced" so install is no issue. I can also pick up a hose there as well. So, would it be worth it?

DIR hoses would be a 24" backup hose and a 7' primary hose. Are you thinking about putting a 7' hose on both?

The way most tech people have the their's setup is with the 7' primary (for donating to an OOG diver) and a 24" hose on your back up reg (octo in your case) to use for themselves after the donation of the primary to another diver.

I was thinking about picking a reg and putting a 7' hose on it, then put a normal length hose on the other one.

Putting a long hose on my rig was one of the best decisions I ever made. I say go for it.

Make sure you put it on your primary.

Go ahead and get a bungee for your backup as well...

I second what Marchand said, moving to a 7' hose on my primary, with my backup on a necklace, was a good decision. Made my dives more comfortable, my emergencies more comfortable, and didn't hurt the wallet much either

You don't need a dealer to install it, it only takes a minute if you have a crescent wrench and you'd have to be a real klutz to hurt it in any way.

Not that I'm against it, but why are you thinking of this?

A "regular" length backup hose with a long-hose can seriously get in the way. If you got for a 5-7" primary, I'd seriously recommend doing 24" for the backup.

I would say "go for it" as well. But a twist. I use a standard length (24inch i think) hose on my primary and a five foot hose on my Octo. I didn't like the extra clutter and occassional choking feeling of having the octo on a necklace at least not with my drysuit and hood and woollies already filling that area. Used the 5 foot octo 3 times and it works awsome. clips to a quick pull keeper to my right shoulder strap, hose coils stuffed under my right arm under the bc.

If you don't like the bungied octo feeling, I'd suggest trying different diameter shock cords. 1/8 is much thinner and springier than 3/16 for instance, and can make a big difference in feel.

I think it's more the length of the necklace. May need to try one that will let the octo hang lower. As its the reg stuffed into the adams apple while looking down that is not nice.
