What makes a reg. a "Tech" reg
I hope this is the right place for this. But I am currently getting my Master scuba card right now and am planing on Intro to tech being my next class, probably this summer. When I was asking about my current reg. a lot of people where saying it would not work for tech diving. right now I have the Mares abyss 12. So my question is, what do I need to look for in a reg for it to be a tech reg? Im just trying to make a list on what all i need to start saving up for.
Thanks for any advice. |

First "tech" regs that come to my mind are Apeks, DiveRites and ScubaPros.. in no particular order. Apeks DS4s first stages. XT50 second stages. DiveRite 2500/3000 regs and ScubaPro MK25 first stage and G250(HP/V) S600s second stages.

Basicly, it's about performance and reliability. You want a reg that breathes well beyond recreational depth, and that has a reputation for high quality. You also want first stages that are conducive to proper hose routing with double tank configurations, and of course if you'll be diving in water that's cold, you want something that won't free-flow on you.

Also, they recommend the Apeks DS4 1st stage because it's a fixed style without a turret. So it has less failure points. Atomics are also popular tec regs. Especially the Z2 without the turret. Many M1's are used for high O2 contect because they come ready for up to 80% within proper guidlines. I don't really know what the proper guidelines are, but this is the quote from their webpage.
"Nitrox ready: Factory ready for Nitrox to 50%, or oxygen mixes up to 80% when special guidelines are followed."

Alot of bang for the buck....... ScubaMax RG-1008 Diver Adjustable Regulator
Same first stage..... Salvo Supply - Salvo SR3 First Stage Several of Dive Rites and a few other marketers use only several offshore houses to produce their regs.. No need in spending major money for 'brand names'. I will be adding several Salvo units to my gear soon. PS-- though many popular scuba supplier and manfc. offer great regs.,,,do your homework and compare products and offerings. I persl. use a collection of Oceanic//Mares//Salvo//DiveRite first and second stages. ![]()
