Suunto SK7 and DSS boot.

This one is for the DIY'ers.

It's been requested that I should add this to help others. I've posted it on other sites and received a lot of "Thanks" for posting it. So hopefully this will help some here.

DIR Gear

I tried to take pictures (I stink at it.) of the steps I did to set this compass with boot up. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to PM me.

I noticed on the bungie that you offset the compass. (I'ts also in the instructions). Do you like it this way? And it looks like 3/16" bungie, or is it 1/8"?

Are you referring to the bungees being "criss crossed"? I do like it that way so if one of the ends were to come loose, I would have a less chance of losing the compass. (That's why I have made it into two separate bungees instead of one continuous piece.) It also seems to "sit" better that way as well on my arm. (and it helps me put it on myself with my teeth. )

If this is the bottom timer boot from Deep Sea it also fits my US divers compass and my VEO 180 puck computer. I did the bungee thing for the com. For the compass I put 2 zip strips (wire ties) through the bottom four holes and attached it over the hose protector on my SPG.

This boot was designed for the Suunto Compass. DSS has several different boots for different bottom timers and other computers/units. (I have one for my Suunto Vyper and I just bought another one for my Uwatec bottom timer that should be in today or tomorrow.)

They are molded from the bottom side of each unit. (Not saying they'd NOT fit.. just I wouldn't trust my 300+ Vyper in the mold made for the SP Uwatec BT. )

Actually, I was talking about how you can slightly turn the compass at an angle on the arm. This allows you to view the compass without bending your arm at a right angle. It's done by using the bungie through a different hole than the opposite side. I think I'll like it better this way, but I haven't tried it yet. It might not make much of a difference. Time will tell.

I was thinking that too but, I used the crossed bungee instead.

I do like the way it's "turned" to view the opened part of the boot. It helps me alot as I don't haver the left hand with the light in it. So on darker (less vized) dives, I can keep my light in front of me and still read my compass.

Understood, it is a good fit but you never know. When I was putting it together yesterday I thought of something that I was going to ask here.

Would it hurt any computer functions to super glue a nut to the bottom? I was thinking if I did that and had a short flat headed bolt to thread through one of the holes on the bottom it would pretty much make sure it would not come out.

I think the nut wouldn't allow the computer to sit all the way flush with the top of the boot or however it fits "properly". If that's not a concern, I don't see the nut "interfering" with the operation of the computer or "messing" with it. Actually not a bad idea.

thanks I think I'm going to try it. I bought their generic bottom timer boot and there is about 1/4" between the bottom of both my compass and computer and the bottom of the boot.
