Muck sticks and Reel

There was another thread on the muck sticks, but this is what I came up with. A couple of #10 nylon file handles and some small carabiners on split rings. I already had the Titanium rods, and I sent a few out to members here.
Cost (not including the rods) about $2.25.

The reel is a Delrin fly fishing reel from Wal Mart ($14.95), some braided 1/16" nylon line, 1/8" X 1" aluminum bar stock, a couple of bolt snaps, and some stainless 10-32 bolts and nylocks. All of the hardware was bought from Home Depot, an I had enough aluminum bar stock and line left to build another one. Total cost, about $25.00 and 30 minutes of my time.

It was an idea some other guys had, and evidentially they're popular in a lot of places. The idea is that you use the stick to poke around things, under rocks, etc., instead of using you fingers. Ocean divers probably wouldn't have a lot of use for them, but around here, they could come in handy I suppose. Me, well it was just something to do, and I'll play around with it on my next few dives. I can see the theory behind them though.

I have no idea. I had a handful of these rods, and sent all but these two to ST members. I don't remember how much they cost back when I bought them, but I'm thinking around $2,600.00 ea.

$2600.00 that would put them out of my price range!

A muck stick is a neccessity when diving in Lembeh Strait(capital of muck diving) where you dare not put your hand anywhere. I use it for many things like pointing at things, banging on the bottom of my tank, steadying myself to take a picture, hitting bad divers, playing with octopus and mantis shrimp and most recenting as a reef hook in Cozumel to hold my self still in a current.
