I'm going to cut down a 3 or 4 cell D mag lite... replace the plastic lens with a glass lens, add an o-ring or two, and some sealant and jb weld... as I'm putting it together, I'll take numerous pictures...

thank you

Just finished my P7 build and I am impressed. I am using 8 Energizer AA NiMH in a series/parallel configuration to drive mine along with a Kaidomain.com P7 3-mode driver. I fired it off against the almighty $1000 Salvo LED and it is just a bit dimmer than the Salvo. All in all, very impressive, considering the $200 expense for everything. Now, if I could only make it a bit pretier, that would be great. I also need to cut the maglite body down to almost nothing as there is no need for much length from it.

Good luck with your build. BTW, how is it going?

When you say $1000 Salvo, which model are you talking about? The 12 watt LED retails for $780, and it only comes 1 way. Are you talking about the 21 watt? If so, then I think I'm going to make my own also.

Yeap, the $1000 Salvo (MSRP $1280). The 21W LED bad boy is the one shown on my pic.

I wonder if it would be hard to convert a good surface LED light and make it waterproof.

I would guess the switch is the weakest link for most surface lights.

Looking at the pictures, it seems the Oxycheq light has a tighter and brighter beam than your P7. Is that the case, or is it just the picture doesn't do it justice?

The Oxycheq is a hell of a back up light. It is better than most primaries in my opinion ($55)... It does have a more intese light, just not as much as the P7 or the Salvo. It's a little whiter vs a bluer for the P7.

The blue must not show up as well in the picture. I thought it must be something like that. Anyway, you guys have inspired me. I think I'll be ordering some parts soon & see what I can come up with. Expect a few PMs starting with the word HELP!!!
