DIY Canisters
I recently bought a lathe and have been making some canisters to sell for DIY project lights. These are full Delrin custom turned units with Agro glands, Nielsen Sessions latches and Anderson connectors for battery pack. If you have priced this stuff, you know this isn't cheap!!! They are built to hold 6- 18650 Lithium Ion batteries. The 18650 are rated at 3.7 volts and 2400mah. These can be used in series to direct drive an SSC P7 LED. I have done this on many lights without problems. You can also build a battery pack with 18650 in parallel/series config and use a driver.
Please note that Dive Rite and Salvo (no longer around) canisters will set you back $200 plus shipping. Also, it takes many hours to machine these canisters. The canister on the right, I am selling for $75 as it is my first one and has some production mistakes that in no way hinder its performance. The one on the left is the full production model with almost perfect features and I am selling for $100. I also have a 6-18650 battery pack with charger that I will sell for $75. These prices are all shipped and PayPal fees included. Any questions feel free to ask. I will be making light heads and taking custom canister orders. |

Nice work. I have a suggestion. I installed similar latches on a homemade video housing. One of the latches popped loose during a dive and flooded the housing. Today I stretch a rubber bicycle tube around the latches to keep them closed.
Just a thought and definately very nice work. Snagel |

Light head will be 2 pieces of aluminum machined to thread onto each other with Agro gland coming out of the back. The lens will be 3/16" glass with either 1 or two o-rings. Still under development at this time. I have to thread the pieces so they'll fit together and machine one of the o-ring grooves.
The canisters are about 9-9.5" tall with 2" ID and 2.5" OD (measurements are approximate to within 1/16"). You can get a battery pack that is about 6-6.5" tall in the canister. The latches have the lock on them and they are the Nielsen Sessions everyone uses. I'll take orders for custom sizes as well. Thanks Last edited by divepapi : 10-23-2009 at 04:30 PM. |
