Easy stuff to make
The easiest things my buddy and I have made are our own soft weights and tank rack.
Soft weights are just flag material and lead shot. Tank rack is just pvc pipe glued together (that thing is sturdy). What other things are useful and easy to make? |

That's a big question...depends on the handy-ness of the person, and their diving needs.
Start with the DIR sites and branch out from there...several of them have great tutorials on how to trick out your rig from home: reg neckaces (http://dir-diver.com/en/equipment/backup_reg.html), gear attachment (http://diveriteexpress.com/library/boltsnap.shtml), fin straps (http://www.cyber-strategy.org/pers/FinStraps.html), etc.

Here is the tank rack...
The soft weights are easy enough. Just bought Flag material from a local sewing shop and some nylon thread (like fishing line). Sew a small bag. Flip it inside out. Fill with pre measured lead shot (I think we used size 8 shot). Sew the top closed. I already had a scale and we just cut the top off of some empty plastic water bottles and filled them with the approiate amount of lead and then dumped that into the weight bag. Phil |
