West Marine special edition clips!

To start off i wanna say i am defanetly not the first person who thought of this, im new to diving and i came up with it on the go today when i was driving home from my LDS after dropping off a tank that i rented for the weekend...and being very disapointed in the selection of crappy clips for holding Octo's and my guages... i am pretty mechanically inclined, and have somewhat of a fetish for optomizing things... so while i was driving home i stopped by west marine and picked up rope, and some stainless clips that i thought would be up to the job....and heres what i came up with....

i also needed a dive knife so i made a deal with the guy in the shop to sell me the Remora Knife because it didnt have the back part to attach it to the hose...he charged me 15 bucks for it...so i came up wiht my own idea to attach it... i took a file and knotched in teh sides abit so that the zip ties would hold it in place...

i know this stuff seems really stupid and its def been done before

Looks pretty good... The knots you have there are enough to secure you if you need to hang from a building from one...

Good job. I use similar ones for my guages but I have no slack in the line at all. The clip is tied right up against the hose...

Good idea for the knife...

Looks like a great idea-and there is no chance of a retractor failing in the middle of a day of diving with those either.

that rope is so thick!! you can use thinner rope to do it. like the stuff that spools have on them.

Nicely done. Is that an improved clinch knot? Looks like the one I use for fishing.

yeah i know, but that was the thinnest rope they had there at the time, and i didnt wanna use cheap cord...the smaller clip was 6.99 (a lil on the pricey side cuz its stainless) the bigger one was 8.99

as for the knots, they are gallows knots...basicly a noose...i used to do abit of sailing and so i can do a bunch of diff knots and idk y but i decided to use it for this when a bowline probably would have been sufficient...

If you're not near West Marine or the two Dive-Rite snaps sold here on Scubatoys aren't what you're looking for, try TDL. They have a lot of different sizes for $2-10 depending on the material - brass or stainless. Look under swivel bolt snaps in accessories. They're all 15-62% off currently also.
