Boot Dryer
I know that I am not the only one that hates waiting for your booties to dry. I was thinking about trying to make a boot dryer out of PVC pipe and maybe some old PC cooling fans. I am just wondering if anyone has done this or tried it. Well maybe not even that exact idea just has anyone made a boot dryer that works. If you did use PC fans how did you hook everything up?

I just take a piece of 1.5" PVC with a 90 degree bend and a piece of 1.5" pvc that is a few inches long....this allowsthe air to get to the foot portion....drill 3/8" holes all over it. then for the long piece you could make a small stand using T pieces and Air from the register would get into the inside of the boot......It doesnt have to be warm air, just air flowing.

In our house I was able to pick up a small fan that I installed in the fireplace vents to force air in, picked up at a local electonics store, ran off AC, and were about $10. This mounted in a box with a couple of hoses in it would push a ton more air than a boot dryer.

You can build your own pretty cheaply, probably $10-30 for the fan, and $10 worth of PVC and $5 worth of PVC glue (unless you already have some).
Considering you buy a premade commercial model for around $35, I'd rather have a nice polished one and save myself the hassle... since I'm not saving much money. If the commercially-sold ones were like $50-100, I would look into making my own, but at that low price, it doesn't seem worth the hassle. |

I've looked at the Bass Pro boot dryer myself for drying the drysuits during the Summer, I've basically decided that to use it I'd need to extend the tubes so that it would keep the suit off the floor.
As it comes it would dry wetsuit boots easily, and to be honest I think it could easily become modular and serve multiple needs cheaper than you can build one up.
