CHEEP LED 3 Watt Light

$40 for the brightest small LED light I have found so far! Plus you get an emergency strobe at the same time.

That is the light or you can use any existing 2 cell light that is waterproof.

This is a 2 cell 3 watt led bulb from Maglite. It is the brightest thing I have ever used. It is a little longer than a standard pr-2 bulb, but with a little bending of metal, I was able to get it to work. You get a very wide flood with an extreme hot spot in the center.

Larry, bet you would sell these bulbs like crazy!

Will a Maglite work underwater? (I mean, at pressure)

I love my LED Maglite. Just can't get it to let me know if it wants to go diving.

it will not work underwater... although maglites are sealed well, as soon as you put them in some real pressurized water, they will flood and you'll have an expensive weight...

I do wonder how long 2 AA batteries will last in this... I wonder if there is extra room inside the watertight case part to do some upgrades... I guess I'll see soon enough...

There are 2 sides to the flashlight. 1 for the strobe, 1 for the light. If you removed the strobe, and did a little drilling, you could run 2 pairs of 2. That should give you almost 2x the life.

Although not as strong as a true primary light, it would be nice as a backup.

The bulb is a little longer than standard. I do not know what other lights it would fit in, I am still looking and playing with different ones.

interesting... they are cheap enough that destroying one playing with it wouldn't kill your pocketbook...

I ordered two

and like, you, they look like perfect backups, especially if you leave the strobe on there...

edit: I was actually thinking about the lithium / krypton upgrade... not sure if it would be much better than the led though...

You can get the Maglite LED at Walmart. The Nite Ize LED for maglites will work in any maglite, unlike the Maglite ones, which are designed for specific voltages and are not cross-compatable, but the NI ones aren't as bright, I believe. Cheaper though.

If you want to take your Maglite underwater, I would suggest using slightly larger orings, and replace the front plastic piece with a glass one, the plastic will crack under pressure.

I decided to leave the 2-AA and 6-D Maglites in the car. Since that I purchased a Pelican L1, and a Princeton Tec Impact XL. I also have a 8-C underwater light and a tank marker light. I think I should be good in the lighting dept.
