for purposes of simplifying donning/doffing or just in general? i've always pretty much just lived by "if it aint broke don't fix it" ya know. I could understand if the band was cracked or weathered or whatever?

My watch will not fit over my wetsuit and guantlet gloves. I had thought of this exact mod to fix the problem so I could wear my gloves and watch at the same time.

With a bungee, if you wear it over a wetsuit, it's also self-compensating at depth when your suit compresses, so it won't be loose.

Makes doffing and donning a lot faster... slip it on, done vs. messing with a buckle.

Far less likely to break catastrophically... Rubber watch bands crack and can break unexpectedly. Webbing will wear eventually, but you can see it wear over time and replace it (cheaply) as/if needed. Rubber can crack with little warning, by comparison.
