Right now I'm just using a zip tie and some cave line, but the snap would come off if I pulled hard on it.

Why not tie the bolt snap off like this instead, and put a loop of bungie or inner tube next to the connection point, to hold the light in place while it's clipped off? (Sorry about the crude image mash, but hopefully it illustrates the idea)

Guys, I know y'all think that cave line is the best way to attach clips because it can be cut if the clip fails to open. However, the type of connection that I posted above can also be easily undone; simply, undo the shackle. I takes just a little more time to do that than to pull out your knife and cut a clip loose; it is also safer because you don't have to deal with a knife.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be needing some plasti-aid or whatever it was.

As for tying the snap higher up, I don't like the way it would cause the butt of the light to protrude past or upto the d-ring, and I imagine it might be harder to clip and unclip. However, perhaps I'll give it a try just to see for myself. Also I have thought about running some cave line from the higher slots to the boltsnap so that if the zip tie came off the boltsnap would still be clipped to something.

Do you guys think some sort of epoxy from a hardware store would work as well? I'm not sure where to find plast-aid locally and not too keen on waiting for shipping from the manufacturer.

About the only thing that could be looked at as wrong would be that others may not be familiar with the set up. And you don't want people having to solve problems when they are deep and in an emergency situation. If you could not reach the shackle, then you may have to rely on someone else to help. In that case, they may or may not be familiar with shackles. But they probably have a knife.

Now most people never go where this would be an issue, and I think your idea looks good, and I don't see a real reason not to use it provided you aren't squeezing through caves or wrecks. Even then, as long as your buddy(s) were OK with it, then go ahead. Worse comes to worse, they cut your harness. I use cave line & I also use a small zip tie. I just don't see both of them failing on the same dive, and I hate losing $100 backup lights.

I just made a mini version of a regulator necklace to hold my Q40 eLED on my forearm. I used 3/16 rubber tubing from a tackler store (it's the rubber tubing they put on diamond jigs) Gonna dive with it for the first time this weekend. Will post pics and a review after I try it out.

For my light canon, I prefer the latern grip over the pistol grip, I keep it tethered to me with a coiled expando tether like a phone cord. and when I don't want to hold it I just put the latern handle tuked into my BCD cumberbund........never has falled out yet and even if it does it's tethered.
