Great way to attach UK lights

What I did was I took a dremel and modified the base of the handle, where the lanyard attaches, so that I can fit a anchor shackle on it. It provides a very strong mechanical connection, and now I can clip it off when I'm not using it.

It only took about 30 minutes to do both of them.

Yes, I know that those are suicide clips but they were all I had when I was taking the pictures.

It looks good, but the connection might be TOO solid for some tastes. In cave and especially wreck diving, it's a good idea to avoid that sort of metal-to-metal connection so that the bolt snap can be cut free if the "snap" won't open. Most folks I know use cave line to tie the snaps on, like this:
Attaching lights and other hardware using cave line

Still, nice work! I'll have to upload some pictures of the loc-line video arm I made for my HD100.

I'm with MSilvia.

Great work, however, and clever. :-)

One thought would be to use the standard cave line knot to connect the shackle bolt to the bolt snap. Then you would have the best of all worlds... solid metal connections to the light and your BC's d-rings, super strong with practically zero chance of accidental loss, and yet one point (the knot) where it could be cut apart if need be in an entanglement emergency.

(Of course, at that point, may as well just use the cave line to attach the bolt snap directly to the handle, and then no modifications or anchor shackle needed.)

That is what I have done for most of my accessories.

Since it's the same camera, I though I'd show off my latest DIY project here... my HID100 diffused video light:

I made the adapter for the light's "slide-in" handle slot out of thermoplastic and secured it with a cotter pin so it wouldn't rotate. I then secured the loc-line (I got a sample kit for around $12) to an old Dacor camera tray I got off eBay for $5 and I'm ready to rock. I'll be testing it this weekend at a pumpkin carving dive.

Nice work on the camera. My local dive club is doing an underwater pumpkin carving this weekend, any suggestions?

Anyone have a good, secure solution for my UK Q40 eLED Plus backup light?

Right now I'm just using a zip tie and some cave line, but the snap would come off if I pulled hard on it.
