Attaching a knife
I just picked up a knife that is a bit bigger than my BC's knife mount is set up for. I'm wondering what the best way to attach the holster to the BC will be. I was thinking about using heavy-duty zip ties to fasten both ends of the holster to the mount. Or it was suggested to mount it on my shoulder. Not sure how to really do this... I have a Mares Aliikai BC- just one pocket, so I'm still trying to figure out the best way to carry everything I need...
Thanks, Amanda |

As a gear nut, there are a fair number of ways to mount a knife..I think I have used them all.
1. the calf mount...I love that with the giant "Mike Nelson" knife. Makes you feel so rambo. 2. The Calf mount... The Lora Croft look...excellent. 3. The waist belt knife - one has be be careful the mount is heavy enough to get pushed on hard, but I have one small one there. 4. The inflator hose zip tie attachment, usually with a latching knife that is upside down...I have that on one of my regs. 5. The inflator hose attachment (zip ties again).. got that on my BC (which I hardly use). 6. Th shoulder mount on the BC strap. Several ways to do this, but if you have the room, the best is the bolt attachment, where you melt a couple of holes in the webbing with a hot nail, and screw the bracket on (assuming it is a knife that allows that, and has the bolts and screws, etc). 7. You can zip tie it on, but be careful that it will not move on you or make a snag point. I have also mounted on on the outside of a pocket (the hole thing again), worn one on my arm (opposite my arm mounted strobe), put pockets on my suit and attacted it to the outside of the pocket on my leg. Oh, and I have at least 3 knives with me on every dive. Last edited by Puffer Fish : 11-06-2007 at 09:46 PM. |

Thanks guys- I've rigged it up to the knife mount on my BC for my pumpkin carving dive tomorrow. I'm not sure I like where the mount is, but I'll check it out, see how accessible it is. It's a bit long for a shoulder mount. With it being a bit of a larger knife I might try a calf mount, and pick up a smaller knife to put on my BC.
