inexpensive hand cart

Here's something. I bought a 40-riyal luggage cart from the Carrefour and I'm using it to cart tanks from my car to my flat and vice-versa. It came with one bungee strap, which is very useful. After diving, I strap my clothes basket filled chock-a-block with dive gear to the luggage cart and go. Tonight I strapped 5 cases of beer to the mother and went.

It's a great way to get stuff to your flat from your car, if you're completely on pavement. It folds up, goes in the car trunk, and you're ready to go. very nice. I use the bungee to tie tanks together which lay on my front seat floorboard. Then when I fly around the roundabouts one hand's on the wheel/car horn, one hand on the tank valve to control them from flying about. Works well methinks.

I have (granted much older, beat up) one of those that I've been looking for a use for! I never thought about strapping tanks to it! Thanks for the stories.

I have used a cheap $20 hand grocery cart in the past, works great for two tanks plus gear. and if you want to go in the sand just take the wheels of a kids big wheel and slap them on.

Yep, I'm thinking about pimping mine up a bit. I'll have to go to the souks to find big wheels. As far as that goes, I really would like to use another bungee so those tanks are a bit more stable. At this point, though, I just secure and push with one hand on a valve, waiting for shifting. The tanks, really, are either going into my flat or back to the car on the trolley.

I've also used the cart to strap a clothes basket filled with wet/extremely sandy kit. The sand here is just something else. Even if you use a clean big mat to spread kit on, and you make a point of taking containers of fresh water and a small basin, and rinse off before putting in said clothes basket, I still inevitably manage to come home and scatter sand everywhere. Another reason why I love the tile floor in this place--so easy to clean.

Oh, and another use? Strapping cases of beer, of course. We have exactly one place where we can purchase booze in Qatar (with a permit, of course), so when you go you tend to stock up. So the cart came in handy, as I didn't have to make 4 trips down to my car. (^^).

This is working so well, in fact, I'm going to go back over to Carrefour and get another one.

Just wanted to post, as it's a really inexpensive option for those who are diving on a budget (grad. students) or don't have the luxury of huge home supply shops around the corner.
