What a strange rumor. I know quite a few divers who love their splits. The choice of suit has nothing to do with this.

In fact, I bet most drysuit divers dive split fins. I can't think of why your exposure protection would make any significant difference in your fin selection.

I wear Apollo Bios when I dive wet or dry and they do fine. Some people think a split fin will not provide enough push through the water when you are wearing a bulky drysuit. First hand knowledge, they do fine. I have dove with people in wetsuits wearing paddle fins and they have to keep up with me. The people who keep regurgitating you can't wear split fins with a drysuit have never tried it. Therfore, they should not speak out on something they know nothing about.

I wear splits with my drysuit. Works fine. I think what you're referring to is some tech divers not liking splits. Some claim splits don't offer enough push to move the large amounts of gear they often carry, doubles, stage bottles, etc. I don't have any real world experience with trying to push lots of gear along and haven't used tech fins yet, so I really can't comment on those.

Well, let's not jump to baseless conclusions here

A lot of tec or GUE divers don't wear splits as they believe splits aren't very good for frog-kicking and are more likely to kick up silt in low-viz.

If you don't frog-kick or spend time in low-viz then it won't be an issue for you

Personally I think you should find what works for you and the diving you do.

Agreed.

I like my splits (biofin xt's) in the right circumstances, but I definitely prefer my Jet fins when diving dry, and especially when hauling doubles and deco bottles.

I would never say you CAN'T wear splits. But I would note that you MIGHT be happier in paddles. And yes, I've tried both.

As always in the splits v. paddles debate, how you kick (frog vs. flutter) and what you're used to will always make a big difference in your comfort level.
