I would compare the Bare Nex-Gen ($950) to the Whites Fusion ($1,188). Definitely dive one or both of the drysuits before buying so that you make an informed decision.

I have put nearly 200 dives on my Bare Nex-Gen, and it has performed admirably. However, when Whites came to town with their demo days, I dove the Fusion and was really impressed with how much flexibility I had while wearing it. It was like wearing a 3mm wetsuit...really. Also, I experienced much less drag as I finned through the water. To me, that would be worth the $200 difference. But that's just my opinion.

Good luck with your drysuit shopping...

Remember you can always install those later. The nex-gen is a great suit, especially when on sale... Other competitors in the price range are the Typhoon Prosport, the Pinnacle Freedom (slightly more heavy-duty, and comes with a pocket) and White's Fusion (a little more pricey, but worth the upgrade).

I always thought that p-valves were a decent idea, and maybe one day way down the road I would get one. I put on in my DS a few months ago and I do not know how I ever managed without it now. It allows you to stay properly hydrated, and do not have to worry about getting out of your suit to pee. A lot of DS divers that do not have p-valves do not drink much water throught the day because they do not want to have to wrestle with their suits. I know that I didn't before I put mine it. That can be a dangerous thing... Put one in, you will be glad that you did...

I have both a bare and pinnacle evo2, I like them both and find the bare to be comfortable. I do in like my Pinnacle alot better though. I like the pocket and the feel of the suit. . . It just feels alot more comfortable.

If you've never used one before dive shallow and with a buddy. Shallow gives you a lot more practice managing the air bubble. Do a bunch of dives shallow before you go deep so that you have hands on experience. Practice recovery from problems too, especially the feet first ascent. Common with new drysuit divers.

I need a dry suit for doing cave dives. I have followed this thread and all of the links. Makes me want to run out and buy one now. Unfortunately it will have to wait. Man do I have an itchy credit card.

Matt, you should tell Monte those suggestions. My first drysuit dive we spent maybe 15 minutes shallow, then went straight down to 87. Looking back, I wouldn't do that with one of my students (no, I'm not an instructor yet, but working on it). You give good advice bro.
