DiveAlert on drysuit hose?

would it still work the same as if it were on a bcd inflation hose?
the reason i ask is because i heard that all drysuit inflation hoses have a 1.0mm flow restricting orriface.

so if anyone knows from experience or is willing to compare how loud it is on either hose that would be great

thank you all in advance

oh and if i put this in a bad spot please let me know, i wasnt quite sure where to put the thread

I don't know the answer, but if you don't get an answer, I'll try it out tonight when I get home from that work thing.

I've never heard they have a smaller oriface. Typically I thought people used the same type "power inflator hose" that was on your BC. Just a low pressure power inflator hose. It should deliver air at about the same rate as a power inflator to a BC would.

As for whether Dive Alert will work, it doesn't take that much air on that hose to make that thing squeal. I'm interested to see smoothdome's test results. But I'd bet money it will work.

i thought they were the same hose as well, until i read this on DiveRite Express

BC Inflation Hoses Are Not Drysuit Inflation Hoses You should not use a BC inflation hose for drysuit inflation because the drysuit hose has a special 1.0-mm flow restricting orifice for easy buoyancy control. The flow restricting orifice prevents:
  • A rapid over inflation that may cause uncontrolled or unexpected ascent.
  • A flow rate that could exceed the drysuit exhaust valve expel capacity.
  • A loss of intermediate pressure if the drysuit inflation valve should freeflow.
im not sure if that is specific to their products or if its a standard, but they dont single out their product so i understood it as a general warning for all drysuits

I personally treat them as interchangeable. If there was an oriffice to restrict flow, I'd likely want to remove it for the type of diving I do. (with doubles, I lose a post, I can swap the BC/dry suit hose to the wing for buoyancy control) The only difference on my hoses is the drysuit hose has a few 'wings' to make it easier to pop off and the BC hose is shorter.

I've always used them interchangeably as well... Never pushed my dry suit inflator and blown up to the michilen man in a nano-second - so I would not worry.

And the fitting is the same - should work no problem. The only problem being, is your chest above water level when you need to use it? But if you practice popping it off with your gloves on, you can always disconnect it once you are on the surface to use it.

Test results were inconclusive. I did find out that I cannot hook up a dive alert to my drysuit hose though. The outer ring of my DUI hose is too large to fit the standard Dive Alert.
