If you're talking truly tropical temps (80s+), shorties and light 3mm suits are super cheap. If you can afford a drysuit, you can afford $50 for a cheap tropical wetsuit.

Personally, given airline travel restrictions, I'd rather just rent something there than schlep along my own wetsuit, when we're talking temps that warm. Exposure protection just isn't nearly as important.

I wear my dry suit up to about 75 degree water. Why - little body fat and many dives in a day make me cold. Also if you are doing deco stops you are not moving much so you get cold.

If you are diving double steel tanks your drysuit would be a backup buoyancy system to your BCD if the BCD failed. (ex; warm water wreck diving). I start off the dive about 12 to 14 lbs negative with full twin 100's. Without the air in my drysuit It would be a little hard to swim the rig up to the surface if my BCD were to fail early on.

i suppose the cheap wetsuit isnt a bad idea, but i dont like buying crap and would decide on an expensive 3 ml, like the pinnacle

but i doubt i would be tropical diving enough to warrant that purchase
and it also depends on the rental prices and how much of a budget im on during the trip

im just saying that i would have no problem diving dry with an extreamly light undergarmet
